INTERCOM SERVICES

Intercom Systems for Newcastle Homes, Apartments and Businesses

Screen visitors, manage deliveries and control entry at home or work. One licensed electrician handles your intercom, cabling, door release and app setup, from the first quote to the final test.

Video intercom at a home entrance
01

Video Intercoms for Homes

See and speak to visitors before opening your door. We fit a camera, call button and indoor screen, with night vision for evening callers. Extra screens can be installed upstairs or in a granny flat to suit your home.

Indoor video intercom monitor
02

Smart Intercoms for Your Phone

Answer visitors and manage deliveries from your phone, even when you’re out. We connect the intercom to your home network, preferably using cable for reliability, then set up and test the app on each household phone before handing over.

03

Apartment and Strata Intercoms

Let visitors call individual units and residents release the entry door from a screen or phone. We replace outdated audio panels and coordinate the building’s changeover with your strata manager, keeping residents connected throughout the planned intercom installation work.

04

Driveway and Gate Intercoms

See and speak to visitors at your driveway, then open a compatible gate from your screen or phone. We use protected cabling for shorter runs or a 4G intercom for distant gates, avoiding lengthy trenches on larger rural properties.

05

Office and Business Intercoms

Answer reception, staff entrances or loading docks without walking to the door. Calls can reach desk stations, handsets or a manager’s phone. We fit durable door stations and plan cabling around your trading hours to minimise disruption to business.

Replacing an old audio intercom with a video monitor
06

Replace an Old Audio Intercom

Upgrade crackly audio or obsolete handsets to a modern video intercom. Suitable existing wires can often support a new 2-wire system, avoiding opened walls. We test the cable first and replace it only where needed for reliable system operation.

FIND YOUR FIT

Audio, Video, 2-Wire or IP Intercom: Which Suits You

Intercom systems differ in how they carry sound, video and power. Here’s how the main types compare:

Audio only

a speaker and call button with no camera. Lower in cost and fine for a back gate or warehouse door, but you can’t see who’s calling.

  • Video: a camera at the door and a screen inside, now the standard choice for most homes.
  • 2-wire: power, sound and video travel over one pair of wires, which makes it the go-to for replacing old intercoms and for strata buildings with cable already in the risers.
  • IP: runs on network cable with Power over Ethernet, rings phone apps and links with security cameras. Best for new builds and businesses, although cable runs over 100 metres need extra equipment.

Intercom Repairs and Common Faults

Intercom problems tend to show up in a few familiar ways, and most can be traced in a single visit:

A photo of your door station, screen or gate helps us understand the fault.

01

Blank screen or no picture

moisture inside the door station, a failed camera or a loose connection

02

Sound cutting out or buzzing

a damaged cable, a corroded terminal or a power supply on its way out

03

Door or gate not releasing

a worn electric strike, a sticking latch or a gate motor input that has lost its connection

04

Other intercom faults

Dead after a storm: a power surge through the supply or the indoor screen App no longer ringing: a new modem, a changed Wi-Fi password or an NBN switchover that dropped the door station off the network Weather or impact damage: a cracked gate station or a sun-faded screen after years outdoors

DONE PROPERLY

Why Have an Electrician Install Your Intercom

One licensed electrician looks after the cabling, installation and handover.

Power and Cabling Done by One Person

An intercom needs a power supply, cable runs and sometimes a new power point, as well as the door hardware. With one licensed electrician handling all of it, there’s no waiting on a second trade and only one number to call later.

Wiring Hidden Inside the Walls

Cable runs through wall cavities, ceilings and conduit wherever the building allows, so there’s no plastic trunking stuck across your hallway. Double brick and older homes are checked at the site visit.

A Written Price That Stays Put

The quote covers equipment, labour and cabling, and it’s agreed before work begins. Decide on the day that you’d like a second screen? It’s priced and approved by you before it goes in.

Help After the Job Is Finished

Need to add a phone to the app, change the ringtone or move a screen down the track? A quick call sorts most questions, and bigger changes can be booked in without starting from scratch.

FROM FIRST CALL TO HANDOVER

From First Photos to Final Test

A site check, a written price and a system ready to use.

01

Photos and a Quick Chat

Send a few photos of the front door, gate or old intercom, and mention who will use it and how you’d like to answer, whether on a screen, your phone or both.

02

Site Check and Written Quote

The door frame, cable route, power supply and gate motor are checked on site. You then receive a written quote listing the door station, indoor screens, lock release and any extra cabling, with nothing left vague.

03

Cabling, Mounting and Door Release

Cable is hidden inside walls, through ceilings or in conduit, the door station and screens are mounted level and sealed against the weather, and the electric strike or gate connection is wired in and adjusted. Every call, screen and release is tested from both sides of the door, and the app is set up on each phone. You’re shown how to answer, unlock, change the volume and check missed calls before the job is signed off.

BEFORE YOU BOOK

Intercom Questions People Ask Before Booking

Tell us about your door, gate or existing intercom.

The price depends on the type of system, how many indoor screens you need, how far and how easily the cable can run, and whether a door strike or gate connection is included. Replacing an old intercom on its existing cable is usually the most straightforward job. You get a written quote after the site check, before anything is booked.

Yes, and more than ever. Online shopping means more deliveries, and a video intercom lets you talk to a courier or a stranger without opening the door. Many homeowners now choose a wired video intercom over a battery doorbell camera because it never needs charging and can unlock the door for you.

Yes. Most intercom faults are electrical: a failed power supply, damaged cable, a corroded connection or a lock release that has stopped working. An electrician can test the whole system, repair what’s worth saving and replace the door station or screen if parts are no longer available.

There isn’t one best system for every home. For most houses, a 2-wire or IP video intercom with app calling is the sweet spot. Look for a brand with Australian support and spare parts, a weather-rated door station and a screen size you’ll actually use, and you’ll get advice to suit your door and the way you want to answer.

Often, yes. Many modern 2-wire video intercoms are built to run on the pair of wires an old audio system used. The cable is tested first and only replaced if it’s damaged or too old to carry video reliably.

In most cases, yes. The gate station is wired to the trigger input on your gate motor, so pressing release on your screen or in the app opens the gate. Compatibility with your motor is checked during the site visit.
