AIR CONDITIONING SERVICES

Air Conditioning Installation for Bedrooms, Living Areas and Whole Homes

Whether it's one hot bedroom or the whole house, air conditioning installation starts with how many rooms need cooling and how the home is laid out.

Split Systems for Single Rooms
01

Split Systems for Single Rooms

Cool or heat a bedroom, study or living area with one indoor wall unit and one outdoor unit. Installation includes mounting, pipework, drainage and the electrical connection, with capacity matched to the room.

Multi-Head Air Conditioning
02

Multi-Head Air Conditioning

Connect several indoor units to one outdoor condenser, with separate room controls. A practical option for townhouses, narrow blocks and homes needing several bedrooms cooled without multiple outdoor units along the side path.

Ducted Whole-Home Systems
03

Ducted Whole-Home Systems

Deliver air through ceiling vents from a concealed roof-space unit. Zoning lets you condition selected areas, while roof access and electrical capacity are checked before recommending a system for the whole home.

04

Replace an Old Air Conditioner

Replace a noisy, leaking or ineffective unit with a modern inverter system. We assess the existing bracket, pipework and cable, reusing suitable components and replacing worn or incompatible parts as needed.

Upstairs & Complex Installations
05

Upstairs & Complex Installations

Plan installations for upstairs bedrooms, difficult wall access and elevated outdoor units. Back-to-back installations offer the simplest route; longer pipe runs, roof locations and high brackets are assessed before the quote.

Circuits, Isolators & Switchboards
06

Circuits, Isolators & Switchboards

Plan the circuit, protection and outdoor isolator alongside the air conditioner. Switchboards are assessed for capacity and spare space, with any required upgrade included in the same job before installation begins.

07

Small Offices & Shops

Install split or multi-head systems for consulting rooms, small offices and shopfronts. We plan cooling for the occupied zones and arrange electrical work around trading hours to limit disruption to your business.

COOLING & ELECTRICAL WORK TOGETHER

Air Conditioner Installation by an Electrician Who Handles the Wiring Too

Newcastle summers are humid enough to make a bedroom unbearable by 9pm, and on a July morning an older home can take hours to warm up. A reverse cycle air conditioner fixes both, but only if it suits the room and the house can power it.

Most problems with a new air conditioner aren't the unit at all. They're a circuit that trips every time the compressor starts, an outdoor unit with no isolator, or a switchboard with no space left. When a licensed electrician carries out the air conditioner installation, the unit, the circuit and the switchboard are planned together and finished in one booking. That applies to houses, units, townhouses and rental properties across Newcastle.

SIZED FOR YOUR SPACE

What Size Air Conditioner Does Your Room Need

Air conditioners are sized in kilowatts of cooling. These ranges are a starting point for rooms with standard 2.4 m ceilings and average insulation:

RoomStarting range
Bedroom or study · up to 15 m²2.5 kW
Larger bedroom · 15–25 m²3.5 kW
Living room · 25–40 m²5–6 kW
Open-plan area · 40–60 m²7–9 kW

High ceilings, insulation, west-facing windows, open stairwells and roof exposure can change the size needed. Each room is measured on site.

An undersized unit struggles in hot weather. An oversized unit may cool too quickly to remove enough humidity, leaving the room cold and clammy.

PLACEMENT MATTERS

Where the Indoor and Outdoor Units Should Go

Placement affects comfort, running costs, and how long the unit lasts.

Away from a neighbour's bedroom window. NSW noise rules say a home air conditioner must not be heard inside a neighbour's living or sleeping area before 7am or after 10pm on weekdays, or before 8am on weekends and public holidays.

01

Indoor Airflow

Indoor unit high on a wall with clear space around it, aimed along the room rather than straight onto a bed or desk.

02

Outdoor Clearance

Outdoor unit on a level pad or bracket with room to breathe, out of direct afternoon sun where possible, and as close to the indoor unit as practical to keep the pipe run short.

03

Condensate Drainage

Condensate drained properly, away from paths, walls and the neighbour's side fence, so it doesn't leave stains or puddles.

04

Coastal Protection

Coastal homes in suburbs like Merewether, Stockton or Swansea are better served by outdoor units with a corrosion-resistant coil coating, because salt air shortens the life of a standard unit.

DONE PROPERLY

What an Electrician Adds to Your Air Conditioner Install

The unit, its circuit and the switchboard are assessed together, so the electrical work is ready for the system.

A Circuit Sized for the Unit

Each air conditioner gets a circuit and breaker matched to what the manufacturer specifies. Plugging a large unit into a shared power circuit is one of the most common reasons a new system trips the safety switch on the first hot afternoon.

An Isolator Where It Belongs

An isolator switch is fitted beside the outdoor unit, so power can be cut safely for servicing or in an emergency. It's a wiring rules requirement, and because isolators left in full sun can crack and let water in, a UV-rated weatherproof one is fitted.

A Switchboard With Room for the Load

Before anything goes on the wall, the switchboard is assessed for space, safety switch protection and overall capacity. If two or three units are going in, the household's total load is worked out, so the main supply isn't overloaded on a heatwave evening.

Power and Cooling in One Booking

New power points, a ceiling fan for the other bedroom or a switchboard upgrade can all be handled while the electrician is already there. You don't have to wait for another trade to finish the wiring before the system is switched on.

FROM FIRST CALL TO HANDOVER

What Happens on Installation Day

Clear steps from your first enquiry to the completed work.

01

A Room and Switchboard Check Before the Quote

The rooms are measured, the wall construction and roof access are checked, and the switchboard is inspected to see whether it can take the new load. Possible spots for the outdoor unit are agreed with you while on site.

02

A Written Quote With the Unit and Circuit Specified

The quote spells out the unit size, where both parts will go, the pipe run, the circuit, and any switchboard work. Nothing is left as a surprise for installation day, and you know exactly what you're paying for.

03

Units Mounted, Connected and Wired

The bracket and indoor plate go up, the wall is cored for the pipework and drain, the outdoor unit is mounted, and the new circuit is run back to the switchboard. Pipework is insulated and covered neatly where it shows outside.

04

Commissioned, Tested and Explained

The system is run in cooling and heating to check it performs properly, the electrical work is tested and certified, and the work area is cleaned up. Before leaving, you're shown the remote, the filters, and the settings that keep running costs down.

BEFORE YOU BOOK

What Newcastle Homeowners Ask About Aircon Installation

Call or send your details if you have another question.

The total depends on the size and type of unit, how far apart the indoor and outdoor units are, whether it's a back-to-back install, wall construction, access to the roof or an upper floor, and whether a new circuit or switchboard upgrade is needed. A written quote is given after the site check.

Read the installation cost guide

It's a rule of thumb for deciding between repair and replacement. Multiply the age of the unit in years by the repair quote. If the answer is more than $5,000, replacing usually makes more sense than repairing. It's only a guide, so the unit's efficiency, refrigerant type, and how well it still cools should be weighed too.

A straightforward back-to-back split system is usually installed in around half a day. Longer pipe runs, upstairs rooms, brick walls, a new circuit or a switchboard upgrade add time, and a multi-head or ducted system is normally a full day or more. The expected timing is set out in the quote.

In most cases, yes. Manufacturers usually call for a circuit of its own, with a separate breaker and safety switch protection, and larger units always need one. Sharing a circuit with power points or other appliances is a common cause of tripping, especially when several things run at once on a hot day.

Installing a split system involves two kinds of work. Handling the refrigerant requires a licence from the Australian Refrigeration Council, and connecting the unit to the home's wiring is licensed electrical work. Whoever installs your system should be able to show both, and you should receive an electrical compliance certificate when the job is finished.

Sometimes. It depends on the pipe size the new unit needs, the condition of the pipe and its insulation, and the refrigerant the old system used. Pipework from older systems often has to be replaced, while a sound bracket in the right position can usually stay. Both are checked before the quote is written.
